NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faces setback in liquor policy case. The Delhi High Court dismissed Kejriwal's plea challenging the CBI's arrest and remand. The High Court also directed Kejriwal to approach the trial court for bail.
The court held that the CBI's arrest was legal. Kejriwal's jail term will be extended with this. The court also held that Kejriwal's arrest cannot be said to be illegal. The investigating agency had opposed Kejriwal's bail plea on the grounds that he was the mastermind of the liquor scam.
The lawyer appearing for the CBI said that Kejriwal may influence the witnesses if he gets bail. Kejriwal was arrested by the CBI in connection with a money laundering case registered by the Enforcement Directorate on June 26 while he was in Tihar Jail.
The trial court had granted bail to the Chief Minister, who was arrested by the ED on March 21 in a money laundering case, on June 20. However, the High Court stayed the trial court's order. Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Kejriwal in the money laundering case.
