THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A radical change is the need of the hour in Kerala to implement the Supreme Court's order allowing reservation category candidates with merit marks, promotion and appointment in the general quota. And for that, the government intervention is necessary.
What needs to be stopped is the subversion of reservation in PSC, University, Devaswom Board appointments and professional course admissions by the upper-class lobby. The court has prohibited the transfer of those who are supposed to get an appointment in the general quota to the reserved quota. However, this has been going on in the state for many years with impunity.
Not just in recruitment, PSC follows an eerie double standard even in the reservation policies. 50:50 ratio should be followed while implementing Merit and Reservation. Even in the big rank list that needs more than 100 vacancies, the reservation system is subverted by dividing the 100 vacancies into 5 units of 20 each. As a result, the forward communities get more reservations than the backward communities. This is the case in all appointments to which reservation applies, including in universities and Devaswom Boards.
In University Departments and Devaswom Boards, if there are more vacancies in higher posts, notification for recruitment will be issued for only one post. If there is only one vacancy, the rule is that the appointment is on merit. It can appoint candidates on merit and overturn reservations. Another strategy in universities is not to fill reserved vacancies in senior posts.
