KOVALAM: A student, who was force-fed alcohol by his friends, committed suicide in pain over receiving suspension from college. Bijith Kumar (18), son of Biju and Dalimol, hanged himself in the bathroom inside his house in Kaithavila near Vellar Junction, Kovalam.

Bijith was a first-year computer electrical engineering student at MG College of Engineering, Thiruvallam Vandithadam. Just few days back, Bijith left for college as usual at 8:30 am in the morning. During lunchtime, he was taken to a deserted area by three class-mates and another student from mechanical batch.

At this place, despite his protest, Bijith was force-fed alcohol by his friends. Back at class, Bijith remained exhausted and later vomited. College authorities soon came to know about the incident and at 2;30 pm, he along with four others received suspension. Parents of all four students were summoned to the college.

Bijith came home and told his mother and younger sister Bijitra about the incident at the college. He soon entered the bathroom and locked it from inside. The family turned suspicious after Bijith remained locked up for a long time. Bijith’s father Biju, a carpenter, came home and barged into the bathroom, only to witness his son hanging dead.

After being informed, Thiruvallam police reached the spot. The body was shifted to the medical college hospital mortuary. After the autopsy, the relatives of Bijith took the body to the college and staged a protest.

The relatives demanded action against the friends who forced Bijith to drink alcohol. The protest ended with the assurance of the Thiruvallam police that there would be a detailed investigation into the incident.
