NEW DELHI: Atishi Marlena was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi. Atishi Marlena is the third woman chief minister of Delhi after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) appointed Atishi as the chief minister after Arvind Kejriwal submitted his resignation.
The Lieutenant Governor administered the oath to Atishi Marlena at a ceremony held at Raj Nivas. Atishi is the eighth Chief Minister of Delhi. Atishi, 43, is also the youngest chief minister of Delhi.
Kejriwal resigned after he was granted bail in the Delhi liquor scam case. Following this, Kejriwal himself proposed Atishi's name for the chief minister's post. Atishi was the firm voice of the AAP in Delhi when Kejriwal was in jail in a liquor scam case. Atishi had constantly defended AAP and Kejriwal.
Apart from Atishi, five ministers were also sworn in. Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Imran Hussain and Mukesh Ahlawat took oath. There are six ministers in the Atishi cabinet. There were seven ministers in the earlier Kejriwal cabinet.
