THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian metrological department has warned of stronger rains in all districts of Kerala for the next four days. The warning comes following the formation of a cyclone over South Kerala.
A low-pressure belt is located from southwest Bay of Bengal to Lakshadweep through southern Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu. The current cyclonic circulation is likely to strengthen as a low pressure over Lakshadweep by October 9.
According to IMD, there is a possibility of heavy rain in South Kerala. All 13 districts of Kerala are under rain warning today. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Malappuram districts are on orange alert. Apart from Kasaragod, a yellow alert has also been declared in other districts. Idukki is on orange alert for Tuesday.
During the next three hours, moderate rain with thundershowers and gusty winds of up to 40 kmph are likely at isolated places over the Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts of Kerala. According to the Central Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Thrissur and Palakkad districts and strong winds with a speed of less than 40 kmph.
