Explosion like sounds heard underground in Nilambur, fissures in many places, expert team to examine

NILAMBUR: The expert team will examine the area from where an explosion like sound was heard from underground in Pothukallu. The sound was heard last evening at Anakallu Nagar in Pothukallu. The village officer and panchayat members reached the spot soon after experiencing the sound. Initial reports said that it was not a tremor.

The sound was heard Tuesday night at 9.30 pm. The sound was first like an explosion from underground. People nearby said the sound was heard up to one kilometer away. They were later evacuated to their relatives’ houses and schools. Two houses developed cracks.

Fissures were noticed in the courtyard of two houses in Anakallu Nagar. People in the area have been relocated to Pothukallu Nettikulam AUP School. A similar explosion like sound was heard in the area two weeks ago.
