BENGALURU: TPG Nambiar (TP Gopalan Nambiar), founder of BPL Limited, passed away at 95. He breathed his last at his residence in Bengaluru due to age-related ailments. It was Nambiar who transformed BPL into a well-known brand among people, including Malayalis. Former Union Minister and businessman Rajeev Chandrasekhar is his son-in-law.

TPG Nambiar founded British Physical Laboratories Private Limited, or BPL in 1963. Initially, it manufactured defence equipment and later ventured into electronics. By the 1990s, BPL had established itself as a leading force in India’s electronics sector. With dominance in the TV and phone markets during that time, BPL ranked among India’s top 10 leading companies. BPL is known for bringing a unique revolution to the mobile manufacturing sector. The owner of such an iconic establishment has now departed.
