Two members of pilgrimage group from Tamil Nadu drown in Kallada river

ADOOR: Two people, including a child, drowned in the Kallada river in Kulakkada on Friday. The deceased are Coimbatore natives Muhammad Swalih (10) and Ajmal (21). They were members of a pilgrimage group from Tamil Nadu. who were on their way to Beemapally in Thiruvananthapuram. The incident took place at around 12.30 pm yesterday. The pilgrimage group was travelling from Coimbatore to Beemappally in three cars.

There were 20 members in the group. They started the journey at 3 am from Coimbatore. During the journey, the cars stopped near the Kallada river bank in Kulakkada region. As they headed toward the riverbank, locals warned them about the river’s dangerous currents, leading most of the group to move toward a nearby roadside rest area. However, Swalih and Ajmal went to the river. Swalih was swept away by the current while washing his feet, and Ajmal was also swept away while attempting to rescue him.
