KALPATTA: Three months after a deadly landslide struck Parappanpara in Wayanad, a body part believed to belong to one of the victims has been recovered by the fire force. The remains were found suspended from a tree in the Aanakappu region, a challenging terrain where Kanthanpara and Soochipara meet. Authorities plan to identify the victim through DNA analysis, using samples collected from the families of those who lost loved ones in the disaster.

Despite earlier requests from relatives of the missing and volunteers for a more comprehensive search in areas like Parappanpara, efforts were hindered by adverse weather conditions. To date, the remains of 47 individuals are still unaccounted for, adding to the anguish of the affected families.

The dense forests of Aanakappu, with its rugged terrain, steep slopes and waterfalls, pose significant challenges for search teams. Volunteers braved dangerous conditions in earlier searches, often risking their lives in hope of recovering missing persons.
