Dalit attack repeats; student beaten up at his house for questioning careless driving; beer bottle smashed on head and hacked with sickle

TIRUNELVELI: Another Dalit attacked in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli. A second-year polytechnic student was attacked by youths belonging to an upper caste. The attack took place last night after they barged into the house in Melapattam village.

The student was beaten up by a group of five people. His head was smashed with a beer bottle and he was hacked with a sickle. The attackers were enraged when the student questioned them for driving the car at a high speed in the afternoon. The injured student is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.

On Monday afternoon, when the student was walking near his house, a car coming at a high speed passed by. The student escaped unhurt. The student asked the driver not to drive carelessly. Those in the car spoke angrily before leaving but later in the night they came in groups and attacked the boy. There are complaints that the police are yet to nab the attackers in the incident. There are indications that the gang is absconding.
