THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The sudden demise of SN Shanida, a distinguished civil officer with the Excise Department, has left colleagues and friends grieving an immense loss. Shanida, who served in the Thiruvananthapuram Excise Range Office, met with an accident while returning from an official investigation. She was critically injured in the incident and succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
The accident occurred last Sunday on Pattur Road, near Thiruvananthapuram General Hospital. Shanida’s scooter reportedly lost control, crashing into a road divider. The impact threw her onto the opposite side of the road, where she was struck by an oncoming car. Though she was promptly admitted to the hospital, doctors could not save her life.
Shanida, a dedicated officer known for her involvement in high-stakes excise raids and drug-related cases across the city, was returning from gathering a statement as part of an ongoing investigation. The case involved sensitive information concerning complaints from the Vanchiyoor, Medical College and Kannamoola areas. It is customary for Shanida and her colleagues to conduct inspections on Sundays, especially for cases involving women.
Shanida leaves behind her husband, Naseer and two children, Muhammad Fagadh and Faiga Fathima. Her commitment to the fight against drug abuse and illegal substances in the region had made her a vital presence within the department, especially in citywide and interstate excise operations.
