K-Fon gaining progress; connections cross 60,000; commercial connection highest

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government's dream project K-Fon, which provides high-speed internet at affordable rates, has so far provided 68,756 connections. This includes commercial and free connections in government offices as well. The project was launched in June last year.

The commercial connection is the highest - 39,878. It is the connection that is provided at a nominal rate in homes and establishments. This is being provided since March last year. Free connections for economically weaker families have reached 5236. 23,642 in government offices.

Malappuram district leads in commercial connection - 9472. Least in Kasaragod 207. Kottayam 4237, Palakkad 4049, Kozhikode 3253, Idukki 2612, Thrissur 258, Ernakulam 2544, Kollam 2237, Wayanad 2201, Thiruvananthapuram 2002, Kannur 1659, Alappuzha 1648 and Pathanamthitta 1155.

Delay in free connection

  • There was no expected progress in providing free connections. The target was 14,000 in the first phase. So far, 5236 have been provided.
  • The reason is the delay in completing the proceedings in some areas in a timely manner.
  • However, 23,642 of the targeted 29,216 government offices have received connections.

First phase target:

  • Commercial Connection: 1,00,000
  • Government Offices: 29,216
  • Free connection: 14,000
