KUNNAMKULAM: CPM politburo member A. Vijayaraghavan defended the bizarre arrangements made by the CPM in Thiruvananthapuram, which saw the busy roads blocked to conduct party conference.

“Why should everyone need to travel in a car? Can't people walk for one day? They created a fuss as if there was no traffic on normal days. They have now moved to the Supreme Court for a case on this. The case is filed for publicity. There was enough space for vehicles to move. In earlier days we used to walk. People who come with large vehicles create a traffic snarl. It reduced the space.

Some people were mawkishly explaining how they got late for their family functions due to the traffic jam. The blame fell on CPM for the conference stage. CPM works to establish socialism and to bridge the gap between the poor and the elite. Our meetings are held to transform the society progressively.” Vijayaraghavan's speech was at the CPM Kunnamkulam area conference at Kunnamkulam Kechery.
