NAGERCOIL: The construction of the Glass bridge connecting Vivekananda Rock and Thiruvalluvar statue at Kanyakumari has been completed. It will be opened to the public on Monday. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin will inaugurate the bridge at 5 pm.
With the completion of the bridge, one can walk to the Thiruvalluvar statue from Vivekananda Rock. The construction was done by VME Precast Products Company of Chennai under the supervision of the Tamil Nadu Public Works Department. Both sides are connected by a steel roof. The bridge is made of two-and-a-half-meter glass panes on a steel platform.

Silver Jubilee of Thiruvalluvar statue
The silver jubilee celebrations of the Thiruvalluvar statue at Kanyakumari Triveni Sangamam will be held on the 31st December and 1st of January. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister will attend the event. Thiruvalluvar statue and pedestal is built at 133 feet. The statue is 25 years old. The work was completed on January 1, 2000 and opened to the people. M Karunanidhi, the then Chief Minister and the father of the present Chief Minister MK Stalin, inaugurated the statue that day. The sculptor was Ganapati Sthapati. The statue did not suffer any damage even in the tsunami of 2004. In connection with the arrival of the Chief Minister, 1500 police personnel have been appointed in Kanyakumari for security.
