KOLLAM: The family of Vismaya, a Kollam native who took her life following dowry harassment, said they will approach the Chief Minister against the Jail Department's decision granting parole to Kiran Kumar, the accused in the case. Vismaya's father, Trivikraman, told a media outlet that he would submit a petition to the Chief Minister in this regard.
"The decision to grant parole is contrary to the police report. We suspect that the convict received assistance from within the jail. A comprehensive investigation must be conducted into the incident. We hope that justice will be served," Trivikraman said.
Kiran has been granted a 30-day parole. The police and the probation reports were against Kiran in the first plea filed. In the second plea, the probation report was favourable but the police report was against him. The jail chief considered the application later and granted parole for 30 days. According to an explanation from the jail headquarters, Kiran has been granted parole with strict conditions.
Vismaya was found hanging on June 21, 2021, in the toilet adjacent to their bedroom in Poruvazhy. From the beginning, her relatives alleged that her husband's abuse was the reason behind Vismaya's suicide. Following this, the police registered a case, initiated an investigation, and named Kiran Kumar as the accused. Vismaya was married to Kiran Kumar with a dowry of 100 sovereigns of gold, 1.5 acres of land, and a car worth 10 lakh rupees. However, after the marriage, Kiran continuously harassed Vismaya, demanding more dowry.
