KOTTAYAM: A V Russell will continue as the CPM Kottayam District Secretary. The announcement was made at the CPM Kottayam District Conference held in Pampady. This is Russell's second term. He was first elected as secretary in the district conference held in January 2022.
A 38-member district committee was also elected. Six fresh faces have been included. B Shasi Kumar, Suresh Kumar, Sheeja Anil, K K Ranjith, Subhash T Varghese and K Jayakrishnan have been included. Suresh Kurup, C J Joseph, B Ananthakuttan, K Anil Kumar, M P Jayaprakasham and K Arunan have been avoided from the committee.
The CPM Kottayam District Conference, which has been going on for the past four days, will conclude today. The district secretary replied to the discussion on the work report yesterday, the third day of the delegates meet and state secretary M V Govindan replied to the discussion on the organizational report.
It was criticized in the district meet for the declining participation of people in party programmes and the situation is that even workers in police stations are being helpless. The work of some senior leaders of the party, as well as the branch and local committees of student, youth, women, service organizations, is also unsatisfactory. The representatives warned that the growth of the BJP should be taken seriously.
Caution is needed as the BJP's influence in many panchayats will cause a rift in the CPM votes. District secretary A V Russell said there were discussions and suggestions in the district meet that will help the party move forward strongly. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the general conference at 4 pm today at the Pampady Community Hall ground. Prior to this, a Red Army March and a mass rally will start at 3 pm from the Pampady Red Cross Roads School ground.
