PATHANAMTHITTA: The Sabarimala development project, which was approved by the state government the other day, will be completed within 15 years. Integrated into the master plan, the project is expected to be completed by 2040, utilizing funds from both the Devaswom Board and the state government. Additionally, central assistance will be sought by incorporating Sabarimala into the pilgrimage tourism circuit. The cabinet has approved two layout plans prepared by the College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram, and tenders will soon be invited to create a detailed project report.
The primary objective is to ensure a hassle-free darshan experience for devotees, even during peak seasons. Modern amenities will be established at Sannidhanam to provide resting facilities for pilgrims. The project includes measures to enhance safety and manage crowds effectively during the Makaravilakku season. Entry and exit routes to Sannidhanam will be upgraded. Based on geographical considerations, Sannidhanam and its surroundings have been divided into eight zones for implementing the project.
The bathing ghats and riverbeds at Pamba will be beautified. Medicinal trees will be planted, and gardens will be developed. Permanent facilities for devotees to rest and relax will be installed.
Nilakkal to become the main township
With the completion of the project, Nilakkal will emerge as the main township. Permanent resting facilities for devotees are being constructed, with three buildings already completed. Devaswom Minister VN Vasavan will inaugurate them on the 12th. Of the seven buildings for police accommodations, two have been completed. Nilakkal will also feature parking facilities for 10,000 vehicles.
