THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: RMP leader TP Chandrasekaran was brutally hacked 52 times to death in one of the most chilling political murders to have shocked Kerala. From the crime spot, police recovered a train ticket from TP's shirt pocket. It was later produced as a mainour in the case. The mystery over the ticket is now out after CPM leader Suresh Kurup came with a clarification. Kurup was talking with ‘Kerala Kaumudi’.
Suresh Kurup:
“We were best friends. That doesn't mean we used to call daily but we both shared a great rapport. I invited TP to my son's wedding after calling him from Kozhikode MLA Pradeep Kumar’s house. We talked for a long time and made puns and laughed a lot. By the end of the conversation, TP promised to be at my son’s wedding.
Then one morning when I picked up the newspaper, the headlines screamed TP Chandrasekaran's murder. I felt my body weakening and had to sit down. I didn’t go to see him for one last time. For some odd reason, I couldn’t muster courage. After years, I once heard K Rema responding on some television interview on how ignoble I was in not supporting or coming to see TP after the incident despite being best friends.
Years later, I came to Thiruvananthapuram with my family to attend CP John's daughter's wedding. While I was talking to writer S. Gopalakrishnan, I saw Rema at one corner having a conversation with Simon Britto Rodrigues. My son prevailed upon me to talk with Rema, but I couldn’t. After some time, I took my wife and children along and reached in front of her. I couldn't help but burst into tears.
I still feel the pangs of TP’s death. He decided to come to my son's wedding and bought the ticket. The train ticket found in the pocket of the shirt at the time of death was taken for my son’s wedding. It still gives me nightmares.”
Kurup recalled the past events when asked if he would not attend the wedding of TP Chandrasekaran and KK Rema's son Abhinand, which will be held in Vadakara on the 24th of this month. Suresh Kurup will be indeed at Vadakara for his best friend’s son’s wedding.
