THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rural roads in all 140 constituencies are getting a facelift as the local body elections are near. A thousand crore rupees have been allocated in the budget for the rural road repair project. Out of this, 840 crores will be spent and 3540 roads will be immediately repaired by the administration.

The flux boards, which include the sanctioned amount and pictures of the people's representatives, are being put up on the roads.

160 crores will be sanctioned for the remaining roads. The proposal is to complete the construction of all roads by May 31. It will be time for the election announcement by then. The Assistant Engineer in Local Self-Government Institutions is responsible for implementation.

15 to 45 lakhs

The works will include reconstruction, retarring and widening of existing rural roads. 15 to 45 lakh rupees have been allocated for each road. The Finance Department made the selection of roads based on the recommendations of the MLAs. The scheme includes roads worth an average of Rs 6 crore in each constituency.

Face of rural Kerala will change. People's representatives and officials should work together to complete the work in a time bound manner. The project will help to solve the travel problem in rural areas and enable local economic development.
