BENGALURU: A man who had come to a house to meet his 'bride' was threatened and robbed of half a lakh rupees. The incident took place in Hebbal, Karnataka. The man, a native of Mathikere, Bengaluru and a real estate agent, was the victim of the fraud. A group of women and two fake policemen robbed the 34-year-old man of money.
The man had told a woman he knew to let him know if she had any suitable marriage proposals for him. This woman said that had spoken to the family of a girl and advised the man to come to Hebbal to meet the girl. She told the man that the girl's relative would come and pick him up. After that, the man who had arrived in Hebbal was taken to a house in Guddadahalli.
Two women were present in the house. They had a loose talk with the man. In the meantime, one of the women requested him to lend her 1200 rupees. Saying that it was urgent and that she would return the amount immediately, she made him send the money online. The woman, who had gone out after that, returned after a while. While she was talking to the man, two men and a woman arrived. They claimed to be police officers and assaulted and threatened him, accusing him of prostitution. They locked the man in a room and told him that he would be released only if he paid Rs 2 lakh.
The fraudsters released the 34-year-old when he sent the total amount of Rs 50,000 he had. The man later went to the police station and filed a complaint. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
