NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal has been caught in a row over his 'poisonous water in Yamuna' remark made during the election campaign. Haryana court has asked Kejriwal to appear in person on February 17 in a case filed by BJP.

The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Sonipat has also asked Kejriwal to submit a report to prove the allegation that the Haryana government is poisoning the Yamuna River. The case registered under sections 2(d) and 54 of the Disaster Management Act alleges that Kejriwal made irresponsible statements that spread panic among the people of Delhi and Haryana.

Although what Kejriwal meant was industrial waste, including ammonium, from Haryana is polluting the drinking water of Delhi, BJP has used the issue as a weapon to attack Kejriwal.

PM Modi hits back

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also taken up the issue. “The water sent by Haryana is used by everyone living in Delhi, including judges and diplomats. Will Haryana poison it to kill Modi? Are the people of Haryana different from those in Delhi? Don’t the relatives of Haryana people live in Delhi? Will they poison the water their own people drink? Kejriwal has insulted the country. It is clear that the Aam Aadmi Party is in despair due to the fear of defeat.”

BJP had circulated footage of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini drinking water from the Yamuna in response to Kejriwal.

"Five years ago, Arvind Kejriwal said that he would take a bath in the Yamuna River and drink the water of the Yamuna river. It has been five years, and to date, Kejriwal ji has not drunk the water of Yamuna,"

BJP will cut power: Kejriwal

Kejriwal said that none of the 20 states ruled by the BJP has 24-hour power supply and the Aam Aadmi Party is making it happen in Delhi. "If the wrong button is pressed on February 5, the power in the state will be cut off. Everyone in Delhi will have to buy inverters and generators. Delhi has the cheapest electricity in the country," Kejriwal said.
