THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Consumers will get a slight relief in electricity charges from February. KSEB announced in a Facebook post that electricity charges will be reduced by 90 paise per unit from February 1. The reduction will be in fuel surcharge. Till this month, 19 paise was collected as surcharge. Out of this, 10 paise is collected by the Electricity Board on its own and 9 paise is approved by the Electricity Regulatory Commission.
KSEB had to pay extra for purchasing electricity till September 2024. The 9 paise surcharge allowed by the Regulatory Commission to collect this amount will end this month. That is why the bill will be reduced by 9 paise. Meanwhile, KSEB has announced that 10 paise per unit will be charged as electricity surcharge in February as well. This is taking into account the additional liability of 18.13 crores incurred in purchasing electricity in December 2024.
