THODUPUZHA: CPM State Secretary MV Govindan reversed his stance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the party conference held in Idukki. Govindan expressed concerns over wealth getting concentrated in one sector and unemployment rising to 60 per cent if the government were to introduce AI. These remarks were in straight contrast to his earlier statement made at the Kannur party conference. In Kannur, Govindan lauded AI as a new big thing that would pave the way for socialism.
The total turnaround comes after CPM released a draft citing AI introduction as a threat to employment. To quirky media queries about his sudden change of stance, Govindan said he was just making an opinion and denied changing his stance.
“If AI takes over labour, the working class will be left with nothing to do for a living. There will be 60 per cent unemployment. Who is going to benefit from this AI? The farmers or the middle class?
Everything will be in the hands of the monopolists. If the purchasing power is completely lost as part of monopoly capitalism, then what will be the state of the country” said M V Govindan.
