KASARGODE: A slight earthquake and unusual noise were felt in some parts of Vellarikkundu taluk in Kasaragod at around 1.35 am yesterday. The earthquake was recorded in Birikulam, Kottamadal, Parappa, Odayamchal, Balal and Kotodi areas of Vellarikkundu taluk. Similar happenings were reported in some parts of Hosdurg taluk.

Many people ran out of their houses as the utensils began to shake. Locals say they heard an unusual noise for about 15 seconds. Earthquakes were also felt in Parappa, Maalom, Narkilakkad and Paalamkallu areas. The Disaster Management Authority has concluded that the tremors in the district were the aftershocks of three small earthquakes that occurred west of Lakshadweep in the Arabian Sea.
