Couple killed as bikes collide in Pothencode

POTHENCODE: In a tragic accident, a couple lost their lives after their motorbike collided with another in Njandoorkonam near Pothencode in Thiruvananthapuram. The deceased have been identified as Panthalacode native Dileep (40) and his wife Neethu (26). Two others, Sachu (22) from Plamoodu, Pothencode, and Amal (22) from Kattayikonam, sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to the Medical College Hospital. Both are in critical condition and on ventilator support.

The accident occurred around 9 PM when a Duke bike, travelling from Pothencode towards Powdikonam, collided head-on with the couple's Honda Shine bike. According to locals, the Duke bike was speeding. The impact of the crash was so severe that Neethu was thrown over from the bike and crashed into the wall of a nearby house, leading to her instant death. The couple died at the scene, and their bodies have been shifted to the Medical College mortuary. Pothencode police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Dileep, who worked as a safety officer in Kenya, had returned home just a month ago. The couple had been married for about five years and had no children. The accident occurred while they were returning from visiting Neethu’s parents, who reside in Nellikkavila, near Powdikonam.
