Former Bayern Munich footballer of Chinese descent; Guo Jiaxuan brain dead after match with RC Alcobendas

MADRID: Doctors have confirmed that the football player who collided with a teammate during a match is brain dead. Guo Jiaxuan, who played for the youth team of German club Bayern Munich, was declared brain dead. The 18-year-old Chinese footballer played as a defender for the team.


Guo Jiaxuan was seriously injured during a training match in Spain on February 6 when he was hit in the face by the knee of an opposing player. The footballer, a member of the Beijing Guoguang Under-20 team, was playing against Spanish side RC Alcobendas. The defender was immediately taken to the hospital, but he had entered a coma. Doctors later announced that he was brain dead. The doctors recommended that the life support equipment be removed in this situation but the Guo Jiaxuan's father did not give in. The player was then taken to Beijing the other day. Meanwhile, reports are emerging that Jiaxuan's condition has worsened.

Guo, who came through the academy of Chinese Super League club Beijing Guoguang, played for Bayern Munich's youth team in 2023. Guo is also the only Chinese player to be included in the world squad formed by Bayern Munich two years ago. He also played for the Chinese U-17 team.
