KOLLAM: Th district is witnessing unprecedented summer heat. According to the automatic weather gauges installed by the Indian Meteorological Department in Chavara, Punalur, Paripally and Karuvel, the ambient temperature is above 37 degrees on most days this month.

According to the weather monitoring system operating on Internet of Things technology installed by the state disaster management authority in Kottarakkara, the ultraviolet index in the area is between 8 and 10 on most days. Yesterday, it was 10.

If the ultraviolet index is 6 to 7, precautions should be taken. Extreme caution should be exercised between 8 and 10. If it is above 11, the situation is most serious. Although the index is currently available only in Kottarakkara, caution should be exercised in all parts of the district. The ultraviolet index is highest between 10 am and 3 pm. Direct exposure to sunlight on the body should be avoided during this time. The possibility of sunburn, skin and eye diseases is high.
