Actress Shruti Rajanikanth has openly admitted that there are mothers who are ready to go to any length to get a chance for their daughters in the cinema. She said that she was surprised by the nature of many people. Getting recognition by making compromises doesn't make me happy. The actress said that she had gradually acquired the courage to respond to various things over the years. Shruti shared these things in an interview with Kaumudi Movies.
'Many people have ignored me due to my nature. I don't pay attention to that. Some of the people who ignored me have attempted to come back to my life. However, I am not ready to accept them. When the Hema Committee report was released, several allegations were made against me. There are mothers who say that they are willing to leave their daughters with other men at night, to get a chance in cinema. I know some of them personally. But I am not the one who gave a statement in this regard in the Hema Committee report.
It is not right to blame only men for sexual assaults in the cinema industry. Women are also responsible. If saying such things comes at the cost of roles that come my way, it is okay for me. What kind of happiness does anyone get from selling one's own body to get a role? Some people use actors promising them with a role, and then escape. If you did bad things to rise to the top and attain a big position in cinema, could someone like that go to sleep a single night without regrets?
I had attended an audition for a film. At that time, they said that I was almost chosen. But after a few days, someone else was cast in that film instead of me. When I asked why, their answer was that I was not fat. There is body shaming in the industry. I have spoken about the problems I faced in many interviews. I had a bad experience when I was in eighth grade. It took me years to come out of it. I had the courage to react against it. I was saved because I raised my voice then. My family had a hard time because I had told this to the media earlier,' said Shruti.
