KALPETTA: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that there are no more obstacles in the way of realising the model township that the state government is building for the disaster victims of Mundakkai and Chooralmala. He was speaking at the Wayanad district-level meeting as part of the 'Ente Keralam' program, held in connection with the fourth anniversary celebrations of the state government.
"Earlier, there were some concerns regarding this. Although the High Court had ruled in favour of the government’s decision, an appeal was filed in the Supreme Court, which left a few people still worried. However, with the verdict delivered the other day, that too has been resolved. The promise made by the government is now set to become a reality. The township will be completed step by step, within the stipulated time.
Despite the state going through crises like Nipah, Cyclone Ockhi, the great floods, COVID-19, and the Mundakkai Chooralmala disaster, the central government not only failed to provide the assistance Kerala rightfully deserved but also obstructed those who came forward to help. But none of this broke us. The people stood together in unity and solidarity. Witnessing this, both the nation and the world were astonished," the Chief Minister said.
The event was held at the Chandragiri Auditorium in Kalpetta and was presided over by O.R. Kelu, the Minister for Welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Backward Classes. Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran, Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman, Sultan Bathery Municipal Chairman T.K. Ramesh, Sultan Bathery Block Panchayat President C. Asainar, Mananthavady Block Panchayat President Justin Baby, Additional Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak, and State Planning Board member Prof. R. Ramakumar were also present. District Collector D.R. Meghashree delivered the welcome address, and ADM K. Devaki offered the vote of thanks.
