NEW DELHI: India announced a ceasefire following a powerful retaliation targeting key airbases in Pakistan. India had earlier warned that any future attack of terror would be considered an act of war. The Indian military confirmed that airstrikes were carried out in Rawalpindi and Sialkot. Launch pads used by Pakistani terrorists and military posts across the Line of Control (LoC) were also destroyed by the Indian forces, leading to the ceasefire decision. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri informed that a ceasefire proposal was communicated by the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Pakistani army around noon. He stated that military level talks would continue.
He also mentioned that the ceasefire agreement came into effect from 5 PM today and that both nations have issued necessary directives to their forces. The DGMOs of both countries are scheduled to hold further discussions on May 13.
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on his social media page that both India and Pakistan have agreed to the ceasefire. He noted that the agreement was reached after an entire night of intense negotiations and described it as a call for a complete and immediate ceasefire. Trump also thanked both nations for using "common sense and wisdom." However, sources from the Indian government indicated that no third party was involved in the discussions.
