'More than 100 seats, Congress coming back to power in 2026'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Indira Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram was bustling with Congress activists on Monday. Although the ceremony was scheduled to be simple, the Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium on the second floor was jam-packed. The audience erupted in applause when Adv. Sunny Joseph, MLA, a close aide of Sudhakaran, took over the reins from the outgoing KPCC President.

MP Adoor Prakash took charge as the UDF convener, while MLA PC Vishnunath, MLA AP Anil Kumar, and MP Shafi Parambil took charge as the KPCC working presidents. The new team arrived at Indira Bhavan after meeting senior leader A.K. Antony at his residence on Eeshwara Vilasam Road in Vazhuthacaud. Leaders from various districts and workers from the capital district arrived in the morning.

It has been aeons since Indira Bhavan has been this vibrant with cheerful faces all around. Senior leaders were welcomed with slogans while women activists of the party released tricolour balloons into the sky.

Outgoing President K. Sudhakaran announced all-out support for the new KPCC President and termed Sunny as his brother. Sunny in his first speech as KPCC President talked highly of the team which he was provided with.

Opposition leader V.D. Satheesan said at the swearing-in ceremony of the new leadership that the UDF will come to power by winning more than 100 seats in the next assembly elections, which he said was a promise from KPCC to the high command.

The function was inaugurated by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal. Opposition Leader VD Satheesan, AICC General Secretary Deepa Das Munshi, Congress Working Committee members Ramesh Chennithala and Kodikunnil Suresh, outgoing UDF Convener M.M. Hassan, former KPC presidents K.Muraleedharan, V.M Sudheeran and Mullappally Ramachandran and a large number of leaders attended the function. KPCC General Secretary M.Liju welcomed the gathering.

After the meeting, Sunny Joseph was welcomed by K. Sudhakaran and VD Satheesan, who adorned him with a shawl and made him sit in the president's chair. Sudhakaran blessed Sunny Joseph by placing his hand on his head. Sudhakaran also distributed sweets to everyone.
