THODUPUZHA: Samson George was reborn like Subhash from 'Manjummel Boys'. 23-year-old Samson slipped and fell into the gorge at Kottapara View Point near Vannappuram. Steep path, sharp rocks, and early morning time, there were multiple crises. The fire brigade stood united for the rescue operation. Samson George, a resident of Cheenkalcity, Vannappuram, saw death face-to-face for more than an hour.
Incident
The incident occurred at 3.15 am. Samson had reached Kottapara View Point with two friends, Shivaji and Vishnu, on Friday midnight to see the dawn view. When it rained, Samson slipped and fell while walking along the cliff. Luckily, he managed to stay gripped on a rocky and grassy area at a depth of 70 feet. Otherwise, he would have fallen into the gorge, which is more than 1500 feet deep. Although his friends tried to rescue him, they could not. They could hear Samson's cries.
Rescue operation
At 3.45 am, two units led by Thodupuzha Fire and Safety Assistant Station Officer KA Jafar Khan reached the spot. Samson was found during the initial search. The personnel reached him through a steep path of about one kilometre. Wearing safety harnesses and ropes, the personnel descended through the rock. Other personnel who were below put Samson in a rescue net. After a three-hour effort with the help of policemen, Samson was brought to the top. He was then shifted to a private hospital in Thodupuzha.
Fracture of ribs
Samson's entire body was rubbed against the rock, and his skin was lacerated. He got a rib fracture too. There are no other injuries. Senior Fire and Rescue Officer PT Alexander, Senior Fire and Rescue Officers (Grade) Bibin A Thankappan, CS Abi, Fire and Rescue Officers S Sarath, Shibin Gopi, TK Vivek, B Ashiq, Libin James, Anil Narayanan, and Home Guards PK Shaji and KR Pramod arrived for the rescue operation.
