Major security lapse at Kollam railway station, passengers sustain serious injuries after iron rod falls on head

KOLLAM: There was a major security lapse at the Kollam Railway Station. Two passengers sustained serious injuries after an iron rod from the building under construction fell on their heads. The injured are Sudheesh (40) of Neeravil and Asha (52) of Vattiyoorkavu and a teacher. The injuries of the two are serious. The incident happened at around 10 am this morning. The accident occurred while they were walking outside after getting off the train. They have been admitted to Kollam District Hospital.


Eyewitnesses said the iron rod fell from the top of the four-storied parking building under construction. Two rods fell from the third floor. It is reported that no safety measures were taken to prevent equipment or anything else from falling down at the construction site in the railway station. The rod fell on top of the passengers after falling onto the sheet that was on the floor. An investigation is underway into the incident.
