PALAKKAD: The BJP state leadership has expressed dissatisfaction over Palakkad municipal councillor Mini Kumar's action of filing a complaint with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) against rapper Vedan. The leadership is reportedly unhappy that she filed the complaint without consulting the party, which they believe has caused embarrassment to the organisation. The BJP leadership questioned the basis on which the complaint was filed with the NIA and instructed Mini Krishnakumar to refrain from making any further public statements on the issue involving Vedan.

Mini Krishnakumar filed the complaint the other day, alleging that rapper Vedan insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his song 'Voice of the Voiceless.' She submitted the complaint to both the NIA and the Union Home Ministry, claiming that the song contains derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister.

"An artist is someone who influences society. He sang this song in front of a large audience, and that's what makes it a big issue. In that song, Vedan also talks about the system of slavery. Where exactly does such a system still exist in present-day India? By bringing up past issues, Vedan is sowing seeds of doubt in the minds of the young generation," Mini said.

It is the NIA’s responsibility to investigate why Vedan is injecting casteist ideologies into people in new forms. Existing cases against Vedan should also be investigated. His background should be examined. I'm an Indian citizen. This kind of behaviour would not be tolerated in any other country. I don't know why it took so long to file a complaint, even though this song was released four years ago. I noticed it only recently through social media, and immediately filed the complaint with the NIA and the Home Ministry. I responded as soon as I saw it—and in the exact way it should have been responded to," the councillor had said.
