Drug distribution suspects in Santro car; attempt to murder police officer by running over him during vehicle inspection

MUVATTUPUZHA: An attempt was made to kill a police officer who tried to check a car lying in a suspicious situation by running him over with the same vehicle. Grade SI EM Mohammed (55) of Kalloorkad police station in Ernakulam Rural police limits was seriously injured in his right leg and shoulder. He was admitted to St. Mary's Hospital in Thodupuzha. He will undergo surgery.

The incident took place at 4.15 pm today on the Kalloorkad-Nagappuzha-Thodupuzha road at Vazhiyanchira. The SI, who was conducting a vehicle inspection, stopped the police jeep in front of a Santro car parked in an empty area near the road and asked the passengers to get out. When the two people in the vehicle refused to get out, the SI tried to remove the key, but the car suddenly backed up and ran over Mohammed's feet. Mohammed, who fell to the ground, sustained injuries.

Following the information of Senior CPO GB who was with Mohammed, more policemen from the station arrived and took him to the hospital in an ambulance of the Kalloorkad Fire Department.

Search for people who escaped

The vehicle has been identified. It is indicated that two people associated with drug distribution were in the vehicle. It is also suspected that they were trying to smuggle drugs. The search for the accused is ongoing. The case is for the attempt to murder.
