MALAPPURAM: A few days ago, it was alleged that a one-year-old child died in Kottakkal after his parents refused to seek medical treatment. Now, the post-mortem report has confirmed that the child, Ezan Irhan, died as a result of severe jaundice. The initial findings suggest that the delay in administering treatment was a key factor in the child's death. Ezan, the son of Navas and Hira Hareera, residents of Kuruva, passed away on Friday evening.
Sources indicate that the child had been diagnosed with jaundice several days prior to his death. The post-mortem was carried out under the supervision of Dr. Rahna at Manjeri Medical College. Authorities are now awaiting the results of a chemical analysis to confirm whether the child was given any treatment or any medication was administered. A case has been registered at the Kadampuzha Police Station, and Station House Officer Kamarudheen Vallikkadan is expected to consult shortly with Dr. Hithesh Shankar, head of the forensic department at Manjeri, for further investigation.
Currently, the death has been classified as unnatural, with further police action pending a detailed review of the post-mortem and forensic findings. It has also emerged that Hira Hareera, the child’s mother, used to promote alternative therapies such as acupuncture and had opted for home births for both of her children. The couple is known to publicly criticise modern medicine on social media platforms. Reports further suggest that neither of the children had received vaccinations. Along with the deceased child, the couple has a five-year-old daughter.
