THODUPUZHA: The police have ruled the death of a housewife after she consumed poison following domestic violence as murder. The Karinkunnam police have charged the woman's husband, Purappuzha Animoottil Tony Mathew (43), with murder. The woman had given a confidential statement to the magistrate while undergoing treatment that Tony had forcibly poured poison into her mouth.

Jorli (34), the daughter of Pallarimangalam Adivad John, died on Thursday evening while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thodupuzha. The police said that Jorli's only daughter who is a minor also gave a similar statement. The woman was admitted to the hospital on the 26th after consuming poison. The accused Tony is in remand. The police will apply to take him into custody.

Jorli's father John had filed a complaint with the Karinkunnam police when his daughter was admitted to the hospital after consuming poison. The complaint stated that Jorli had been subjected to severe mental and physical abuse by her husband and relatives. The police investigation revealed that Jorli had been subjected to severe abuse at her husband's house. The police took evidence by taking her husband Tony Mathew to his house and to the business establishment in Purappuzha where he had bought the poison. Jorli's body, which was handed over to her relatives after the postmortem, is now at the morgue of a private hospital. The funeral will be held at 2.30 pm on Sunday at St. Anthony's Forona Church in Paingottoor.
