KOCHI: V S Achuthanandan, chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission, came forward supporting the Supreme Court order to demolish flats at Maradu in Kochi built in violation of Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) rules. The verdict is based on the country's legal system, he said.
VS said the builders of the flats should be blacklisted and one should not support corruption and violation of law. He also said action should be taken against those who went out of the way and gave permission for the construction.
Meantime, the authorities of the municipality have stuck notice again. The notice has asked those in need of rehabilitation should apply before 3 pm today. There is a warning that the flats will be demolished if not applied for rehabilitation.
The deadline for evacuation ended on Sunday. A letter signed by 17 MPs have been sent to the Prime Minister seeking his intervention. Meanwhile, 13 companies have come forward with interests to demolish the flats. The municipality had invited applications via online to demolish the flats.
