RIYADH: Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed Al Saud, known as the 'Sleeping Prince' of Saudi Arabia, died after 20 years in a coma. He suffered serious brain damage in a car accident in 2005 while studying at a military college in London, UK, which left him in a coma.

Since the fatal crash, Prince Khaled never opened his eyes, and so the lore spread across the world and a sobriquet — the sleeping prince. The funeral will be held on Sunday. Alwaleed bin Khalid bin Talal turned 36 this past April.

Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed Al Saud is the son of Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, one of the world's richest men, and Princess Reema bint Talal. The prince was treated at Riyadh's King Aziz Medical City. Alwaleed's father, Khaled bin Talal, is the grandson of Saudi Arabia's founder, King Abdulaziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud.
