THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has announced that there is a possibility of very heavy rain in Kerala. A red alert has been issued in three districts today. The red alert is in Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted. IMD defines extremely heavy rainfall as rainfall of more than 204.4 mm in 24 hours.
An orange alert is in place today in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. The possibility of very heavy rain has been predicted in isolated places. IMD defines very heavy rainfall as rainfall ranging from 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm in 24 hours.

It may cause landslides and flash floods. There is a possibility of waterlogging in urban areas and low-lying areas in general. Continued rainfall may cause landslides and rockfalls. The public and government agencies should be extremely cautious.
