AMARAVATI: A major theft has been reported at a State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Hindupur, located in the Sri Sathya Sai district of Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, unknown individuals looted over 11 kilograms of gold ornaments and Rs 36 lakh in cash from the branch situated near the Thumkunta check-post. Preliminary investigations suggest that the burglars gained entry by cutting through a rear window of the bank.
The culprits are believed to have disabled the power supply, rendering the CCTV cameras inoperative, before breaking open the lockers. Following the discovery of the theft, bank officials lodged a complaint, prompting police to launch an immediate investigation. A forensic team examined the crime scene and collected fingerprints and other evidence to identify those involved.
Police sources stated that no security guards were present at the branch during the incident. The bank operated in an isolated building, which officials suspect may have facilitated the meticulously planned burglary.
Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from nearby buildings and shops, and are also mapping possible escape routes. A case has been registered, and a special investigation team has been formed to follow up on leads.
