Who will be the next president of youth congress? Rift deepens in party, Oommen Chandy brigade also stakes claim

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After Rahul Mamkootathil MLA resigned from the president’s post of Youth Congress, rift deepens in the party. Talks are being held in the party to decide the next youth congress president. One of the brigades of Oommen Chandy has also come forward to stake claim for the post. The Oommen Chandy brigade has come forward for former KSU president K M Abhijith and Vishnu Sunil Pandalam.

If the appointment of the president is not from the state committee, the Oommen Chandy brigade is for K M Abhijith. Along with this, the Oommen Chandy brigade is also raising the name of Vishnu Sunil Pandalam. Oommen Chandy brigade want someone from the two to replace Rahul.

Meantime, there are moves in the group from the beginning for national secretary Binu Chulliyil, president vice president Abin Varkey and K M Abhijith.

AICC general secretary K C Venugopal's faction is strongly favouring Binu Chulliyil. Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala wants Abin Varkey to replace Rahul. The Chennithala faction is for Abin Varkey as he had come second in the previous organizational elections. M K Raghavan MP and a section of Group A supported KM Abhijith in the first phase. Some leaders are also of the opinion that a woman leader should be chosen as the president of the youth congress. It is during this time the Oommen Chandy brigade stepping forward for K M Abhijith.
