‘Sprayed chilli powder in eyes, beat under my feet'; former SFI leader unveils information of custodial torture

PATHANAMTHITTA: Soon after the information of custodial torture in Kunnamkulam and Peechi came to light, a former SFI leader has levelled serious allegations against the police. Jayakrishnan Thannithod, former SFI Pathanamthitta district president, revealed information of the custodial torture in 2012. The revelation was made via a Facebook post.

Jayakrishnan raised the allegations against Alappuzha DySP and former Konni circle inspector Madhubabu. His post said the police beat him under his feet and sprayed chilli power in his eyes and body, and the diaphragm of his ear was damaged. The youth alleged that disciplinary action was recommended against the officer but has not been implemented yet. Jayakrishnan has decided to approach the high court immediately for further action.

Police officers indulged in assault and third-degree methods are still in top of the Kerala Police Force, posing as gentlemen. Let me tell you a little old story. When I was an SFI office bearer (during the tenure of the UDF), the then Konni circle inspector Madhubabu subjected me to lock-up and third-degree tortures. If I tell this, it may seem unbelievable to the new generation.

If I say about the atrocities of the police--beat under my feet, sprayed chilly powder on my eyes and body and damaged the diaphragm of my ear, it would take more than ten pages. The reason I am alive today is because of the protection of my party. I sought treatment in the medical college for six months, and the then government kept me in jail for more than three months. Several cases were filed against me in a single night. All the cases filed were dropped today.

I have been fighting since then against the criminal Madhubabu for the last 14 years. The then Pathanamthitta SP Harishankar, present IG, investigated the case in an exemplary manner and recommended strict disciplinary action against the criminal Madhubabu and said in the report that he is a disgrace to the police force itself, but that report has not been implemented yet?

Madhubabu, convicted in several cases, should have been removed from service long ago. However, he is still strongly in the police force and there is no one to complain to. Why this report has not been implemented, who is behind this is a question, I still have no answer for that. I will continue to fight against police criminals and am now planning to approach the high court. I will fight till death.
