Tamil actor Robo Shankar passes away

CHENNAI: Renowned Tamil actor and comedian Robo Shankar passed away in Chennai on Thursday. He was 46 years old. Shankar was admitted to the GEM Hospital in the city on Tuesday after he collapsed on a film set. As his kidneys failed, he was shifted to the intensive care unit, during which his condition further deteriorated. His body was brought to his residence at Valasaravakkam in Chennai around midnight on Thursday.

Shankar, a native of Madurai, rose to fame by performing robot-style dances on stage, which earned him the name Robo Shankar. He began his acting career as a comedian in television shows, and later rose to films with notable performances in films such as Maari, Singam 3, Puli, Viswasam, Cobra and Vandha Rajavathaan Varuven.

Shankar is survived by his wife Priyanka Shankar and daughter Indraja. According to reports, the actor's final rites and funeral ceremony will be held at his residence in Chennai on Friday. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, actors Kamal Haasan, Simran, Karthi, and Vishnu Vishal expressed their condolences.
