PATHANAMTHITTA: Unnikrishnan Potty has been released to police custody till the 30th of this month in the Sabarimala gold theft case. Public anger is strong against Potty, who stole Swami Ayyappan's gold. The incidents when he was taken to Ranni, Pathanamthitta, for court proceedings and from there to the SP office are proof of this. The accused was taken to the SP office during lunchtime. Unnikrishnan Potty had requested curd during lunch.
Someone else had given curd to Potty by the time the policeman who had gone to buy curd from the shop returned. The shopkeeper realised the matter when the policeman returned to the shop to return the curd. When the policeman said that the curd was for Potty, the shopkeeper made her stand clear. "What I gave today is a past issue. I will not give anything again from here for that thief," the shopkeeper said.
The woman who owned the shop said that the people in the shop at that time expressed their disagreement by saying, "Don't give him curd anymore, why should someone who stole Ayyappan's gold need vegetarian food for?" when they found out that the curd was for Potty.
The Ranni First Class Judicial Magistrate Court released Unnikrishnan Poti to the custody of the Special Investigation Team for 13 days in the case. The court proceedings were completed in secret after asking the lawyers to step out. The entire process was captured on video. The investigation team took Unnikrishnan Potty into custody the previous day in connection with the theft of two kilograms of gold from Sabarimala.
