
MUMBAI: Four people, including three Malayalees, lost their lives tragically in a fire accident at a residential complex in Navi Mumbai. Ten people were injured. A six-year-old child is among the victims. The fire broke out at Raheja Residency in the MGM Complex in Mumbai's Vashi. The accident took place in the early morning hours of Tuesday.
The fire that broke out on the 10th floor of the building at around 12.40 am spread to the 11th and 12th floors. Malayalees Vedika Sundar Balakrishnan (6), Sundar Balakrishnan (44), and Pooja Rajan (39), all natives of Thiruvananthapuram, died in the tragedy. Another victim is local native Kamala Heeralal Jain (84). All of them are residents of Raheja Residency. The injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at Fortis Hiranandani and MGM hospitals.
Four people were found dead during the rescue operation, and around 15 people were rescued, said Purushottam Jadhav, Chief Fire Officer of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The cause of the fire has not been found yet.
Firefighters from Vashi, Nerul, and Kopar Khairane rushed to the spot, and after much effort, the fire was brought under control. The Vashi Fire Department and the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation have launched an investigation into the incident.
