Balamurugan was brought in private car without handcuffs; case will be taken against Tamil Nadu police

THRISSUR: The Kerala police said there are major lapses from the side of the Tamil Nadu police over the escape of notorious thief Balamurugan from police custody. A case will be registered against some officials of the Tamil Nadu police. A case will be taken against Tamil Nadu Pandalkudi sub inspector Nagarajan and two other cops. The accused taken for collecting evidence was brought back in a private car.

Moreover, the accused was released without handcuffs. All this was found to be a serious lapse by the Tamil Nadu police. The Tamil Nadu police hid the information about Balamurugan's escape from custody for an hour. Although he escaped from custody at 9.40 pm last night, the Viyyur police were informed about it at 10.40 pm. The Tamil Nadu police could not find him even in the search conducted. The Kerala police is presently on a massive search to find him.


Balamurugan, an accused in 53 cases including robbery and attempt to murder, had escaped from the vehicle of Tamil Nadu police in a similar manner last May. He escaped on a stolen bike then. Since the accused have chances to escape in a bike, the police have directed not to leave keys on bikes in Thrissur. There is also an instruction that if a bike is reported stolen anywhere, the information should be reported to the police immediately.
