
THRISSUR: Evidence showing the lapses of Tamil Nadu police in the case of the escape of notorious criminal Balamurugan from police custody, has emerged. CCTV footage of Balamurugan, accused in a murder case, being taken without handcuffs has been released. Balamurugan can be seen walking with the police very casually in the video.
In addition, the Tamil Nadu police gave incorrect information about the clothes he was wearing. The Tamil Nadu police said that he was wearing a black shirt and a white mundu. However, the footage shows Balamurugan wearing a light blue shirt. The footage is from a hotel at Alathur in Palakkad.
It is reported that Balamurugan escaped on a scooter. A scooter was stolen from Manalarkavu in Viyyur. The scooter with the number 'K L 8 CA 9536' was found stolen. It is suspected that the accused may have escaped on this. There is a possibility that the accused may have escaped with a bike and therefore, directions were given yesterday to inform the police immediately if a bike is stolen.
The accused escaped while being brought to Viyyur after being produced in a court in Virutha Nagar in a case registered in Tamil Nadu. When he was stopped in front of the jail to buy water, he eluded Tamil Nadu Pandalkudi sub inspector Nagarajan and two other policemen and got out of the car and ran away. The Tamil Nadu police informed the Viyyur police an hour after the accused escaped. The Tamil Nadu police first searched nearby lodges and other places. When they did not find him, they reached Viyyur station.
Balamurugan (44) of Kadayam in Tamil Nadu, is an accused in 53 cases, including robbery and attempt to murder. He had previously escaped from a Tamil Nadu police vehicle in a similar way. He escaped on a stolen bike then. Balamurugan was arrested by the Kerala police from Marayur in 2021 in a robbery case in Tamil Nadu. After being released, Balamurugan took revenge by committing a series of thefts within the limits of Marayur police station. He was in Viyyur jail after being caught by the Kerala police. Meanwhile, he was taken to court to be produced in connection with a case in Tamil Nadu. The police are conducting an extensive search in Thrissur to find Balamurugan.
