
MALAPPURAM: Attempt to murder a woman in broad daylight. The incident took place in Malappuram. The assailant stopped the woman who was going home on a scooter and tried to stab her. The police are continuing their search for the accused, Palakkad, Nallepilly native P.S. Ashwin, who escaped after the attack.
The attack took place at around 10 am this morning on Pension Bhavan Road near Malappuram city. Ashwin, who arrived on a bike, stopped the 28-year-old woman who was coming on a scooter and stabbed her with a knife. Ashwin tried to sit on the fallen woman's body and stab her in the neck, but when other passengers came along, he quickly backed away, got on his bike and escaped. The woman, who suffered head and hand injuries, was taken to the Malappuram Cooperative Hospital for treatment. The police said that the injuries were not serious. The knife that the accused brought to attack was recovered from the spot.
Ashwin and the woman, who were employees of the same private company, were friends earlier but later fell out. Ashwin had been constantly threatening the woman by calling her and sending her messages after her marriage was fixed with another man. The woman had filed a police complaint against Ashwin, accusing him of harassing her.
The police had called Ashwin and warned him. The murder attempt took place after this. The police have reached the hospital and recorded the statement of the woman. The police have received information that Ashwin, who escaped, has reached Kozhikode. The police have announced that the accused will be arrested soon.
