NEW DELHI: The Narendra Modi government's pet project is showing signs of becoming a reality. Union Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw announced that India's first bullet train will start service within a year and a half. The minister announced in a press conference that the bullet train service will commence on August 15, 2027. The service in the first phase will be from Surat in Gujarat to Bilimora.

These are trains with a state-of-the-art model, capable of travelling at a speed of up to 320 km per hour. The bullet train, initially operating on the Surat - Bilimora route, will soon be extended from Vapi to Ahmedabad and from Thane to Ahmedabad. With the introduction of the trains in Kerala, it is expected that the distance from Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram will be covered in just two hours. At present, the same distance requires nearly eight hours of train journey.

The Minister said that the project will mark a revolutionary change in the travel sector of India. After its initial run, the train will have service daily on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route. At present, the construction work is progressing rapidly, and the country will enter the bullet train era within the given time.
